S35 lounge chair produced by Marcel Breuer for Veha, 1930s

マルセル・ブロイヤーによるモダニズムデザインのラウンジチェア。

オランダのヴェーハ社製、マルセル・ブロイヤーのユニークなS35ラウンジチェア（1930年代）。この特定のサドルレザー張りは現存2点のみ。特注品である可能性が高い。ヴェーハ社は1930年代初頭に本椅子の製造権を取得した。ヴェーハはハーグの大手鉄鋼会社J.B.ファン・ヘイストのブランド名であり、ヴェハ暖房用ラジエーターで長年知られていた。1932年頃から1937年頃にかけて、J.B.ファン・ヘイストは鋼管家具シリーズも展開。椅子、アームチェアなど。

スチールパイプのカンチレバー構造とレザーストラップの組み合わせにより、機能性と造形美を兼ね備えた一脚です。素材のコントラストが美しく、住宅空間からギャラリー空間まで自然に調和する、モダニズムデザインの好例といえます。
